Police charged a Rocky
Mount man with drunken driving and hitting an officer with his vehicle in a
motel parking lot.
Rocky Mount police Officer
S.C. Joll was not hurt in the incident, which
occurred this past week at the Red Roof Inn on U.S. 301, police said.
Jeffery Morgan Taylor, 44,
of the 1100 block of Hill Street was charged with driving while impaired,
assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, resisting arrest and a
noise ordinance violation. He was jailed under a $15,000 bond.
Joll reported that he spotted Taylor driving a 1995 Honda Accord into
the motel parking lot, with loud music coming from the radio. When the officer, who was
patrolling the lot on foot, tried to get the driver to stop, the car grazed Joll, police said.
Taylor eventually stopped
the car near the back of the lot, police said. When Joll
took Taylor to the magistrate's office, he became belligerent, police said, and
the magistrate charged him with contempt of court.
Taylor has been to prison
in the past for impaired driving, burglaries and possession of drug
paraphernalia.
